Last Sunday UNESCO declared Cultural Heritage of Humanity the architectural ensemble designed by Oscar Niemeyer for the Pampulha. They are buildings constructed on the margins of the lagoon in the 1940s and became a landmark of the beginning of his career. They are four iconic buildings in the city: the Church of St. Francis of Assisi, the Yacht Club, the Ball House restaurant and the Casino. The restaurant and the casino have been transformed into exhibition gallery dedicated to architecture and contemporary art museum respectively. Except for the club, the others have been shown here under the tags ‘Niemeyer’, ‘Pampulha’, ‘St Francis of Assisi’ or ‘MAP’. There was the project for a hotel which was not built. This photo shows the entrance to the Museum of Art of Pampulha.
